A Brief Review of Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

Okay, I'll be honest, slow-burn books with more internal conflict than action aren't usually my thing. But this one was an exception!  The humor, the characters, the sizzling chemistry – it was all so captivating.

I think I know why I enjoyed it so much. I'm a sucker for fake dating tropes, and stories about polar opposites falling for each other just melt my heart. Add in slow-burn attraction and tons of chemistry, and I'm sold.

This one had it all: a complicated hero with a rockstar family background, a down-to-earth hero who initially wants nothing to do with him romantically, and a whole cast of snobby rich people and entertaining side characters. I basically curled up on my couch with a glass of wine and devoured every word.

So, Luc is our moody, kind of lost hero dealing with family baggage and struggling to form a healthy relationship. His wild antics are starting to hurt his career, so his friends suggest he get a fake boyfriend for damage control. Enter Oliver, the charming, ethical barista who seems perfect for the job. Oliver hesitates at first, but eventually agrees.

Now, I pretty much knew where the story was going, but I still loved it! Seeing Luc grow and develop was so rewarding, and the chemistry between him and Oliver was off the charts. But the best part? The humor! I laughed so hard I cried.

Usually, I hate unnecessary drama and breakups in books. But this time, the angsty parts weren't too bad. They actually added depth to the story and made me feel even more connected to the characters.
